Youtube video speed changer bookmarklet

Bookmarklet to change the speed (aka playback rate) of HTML5/YouTube Videos

YouTube Video Speed Changer is a utility that enables you to alter the pace of YouTube videos. Although it was tested on YouTube, it works on other sites that use HTML5 video.

The browser of choice is Google Chrome but it should work on the other webkit browsers (Safari and other mobile browsers). It does not work on Mozilla Firefox.

Why this bookmarklet?

Lately there have been more and more lectures on YouTube that I like to listen to. They can even be 2 hours long. Wouldn't it be great to be able to watch them in almost half of the time? The YouTube HTML5 Player's UI supports only some standard speed multiplicators (x1.5 and x2). However, for me although x2 is too fast to understand the speaker, I can definitely listen to it faster than x1.5. I created this bookmarklet to enable me to have a little more customization in speed. In particular I usually can watch lectures at x1.75 but it ultimately depends on the speaker's speed. I wrote it because it solves a problem that I have. And it may be useful for other people.

Installation

The installation is pretty simple. It is a bookmarklet like the Pinterest Pin It bookmarklet.

Pinterest's bookmarklet installation's instructions are really clear and they will work also for YouTube Video Speed Changer.

Just drag and drop this on your bookmark bar:
***Change Speed***

Remember to enable HTML5 video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/html5

Usage

Once it is on your bookmarks, you can click on "Change Speed". A small box shows up in the upper left corner. You can use the + or - buttons to increase or diminish the speed of the video.

Click it again and the small speed box will disappear and the video will go back to normal speed.
